Lauren, parent of two college students in South Carolina: My daughter is 12 hours away and I only see her on school breaks, but I know that if something happens, I've got a backup.
My name is Lauren Boyle, and I have two daughters in college — both of them go to school in South Carolina. We're from Connecticut, so my girls are very far away from me.
I first heard about GradGuard Renters Insurance when my girls were starting school. I asked around, and other friends of mine and family had used GradGuard renters insurance for their kids, so I took that as my recommendation and that's how I used it for mine.
I felt much better knowing it existed — knowing that dorm rooms are usually unlocked and kids aren't great about keeping things in a safe place all the time. I felt good knowing there was a little bit of backup insurance in case anything ever came up.
One of my girls was living off campus, and renters insurance was required for her. The other one was living on campus and it wasn't required, but I went ahead and insured her anyway.
When they were coming home for Christmas last year, one daughter drove to the other daughter's school. Someone broke into the car that was packed for the trip, and my daughter's backpack was stolen out of the car. She had worked the whole semester, had all her tip money saved, and was bringing it home to put in the bank — and it was all stolen. We really thought it was gone forever.
We didn't know what we were going to do, or if there was any way to get her money back, and GradGuard took care of us. We got almost all of the money back. It was a lifesaver. She was so upset coming home on such a bad note, and it all turned around so quickly.
